I think the overall Metropolitan area has 71 like people have said ^ (up there). The metro does go into Connecticut and New Jersey as well.

Toyko does. Toyko has a higher GDP that NYC... Also, New York has something the other cities don't have... that is the United States the source of its prosperity throughout history.

Also NYC isn't the only city that has an economy rivaled by most countries. The USA is a great country... I love NY, but don't limit the USA to an island

What does that have to do with anything?

Most of NYC's sprawl is in New Jersey and Connecticut. State lines are irrelevant because of NYCs unique location. That region doesn't think in terms of state, it's the "NYC region". NYC is in essence, much larger than the state. All the wealth in the region is generated from the NYC mega-economy.

Please tell me you knew all of this. Hello?! The NYC metro.

And Tokyo is nowhere near as powerful as NYC.

Companies do relocate or merge. I'm sure these moves will be represented in next year's rankings.

Business-wise, Minneapolis/St. Paul is easily in the top ten most important metro areas.

That really came as a shock to me, I never expected Minneapolis/St. Paul to beat out larger cities/metro's than itself.

Charlotte's southern border abuts the SC state line. York County is in Charlotte's MSA, and Chester and Lancaster counties are in the CSA.
