is it true that most little italy's are only shadows of their former selves? ive only seen chicago's so i dont really know what the others are like. but id ask which one is still the most prominent before i vote.
Trento NJ also has a very authentic Italian neighborhood and some very good food - Chambersburg
At this point to me it is actually between the North End and South Philly on these choices - little Italy in NY is only one block these days.
Also as a special rep to the North End since the big dig completed; it now flows much more cohesively into downtown - great example of why highways destroy cities and a good example of fixing this issue - Kudos to Boston and the North end
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

New York's Little Italy has been shrinking for years and is dissolving into Chinatown.
Boston's North End is the biggest I've seen out of all the cities and is very popular. Also the neighborhood is intergrated with historic sights like the Paul Revere house and The Old North Church, very cool and authentic old world feel to it. It is not what it once was as Little Italy's have become somewhat trendy as 20 years ago hearing Italian spoken in the streets was common like the Italian grandmother calling the kids to dinner from the 3rd floor window of an old townhouse. Hanover and Salem streets have a very diverse selection of Northen & Southern Italian restaurants, pastry shops, bakeries, and cafes.
Another one of my favorites is Federal Hill in Providence, RI. Very colorful neighborhood, a little more low key, but damn good Italian food
Was there this morning and still enjoying; especially as the Phils have just re-taken the lead
