Yes if NY took its entire metro, the remaining Northeast would be totally deflated as far as importance and influence, similar to CA leaving the west.
The DMV and Bay Area, as of the present moment are tied for the third largest economy in the country. So think of it this way, without New York, the Bos-Wash hurts the way California does without Los Angeles. The next spots? They're even.
Spot after that? Boston between the two geographies has the 6th largest economy in the country and Seattle is like 12th or so (the next West Coast place).
Then you're right, after Boston, it's an entire South take over starting with Houston and Dallas and ending in Miami and Atlanta.
The problem with your hollow attempts to pretend that we actually need the US at this point flies in the face of logic considering we have the financial, natural and intellectual resources to solve any problem.
California would be one of the richest and LEAST in debted industrialized nations in the world.
Actually , California gets NOTHING from the US that we couldnt do better ourselves.
Lol within a decade California would resemble Greece or Spain. A total meltdown would occur and the economy would be in shambles thanks to the morons elected like Pelosi.

Not really considering the northeast (DC-Boston) is far more important than California.
Haha NY is the reason the world even knows you exist.
Remove NY and the Northeast is less important than the Great Lakes. Chicago+Detroit+Minneapolis might be a more vital businesss trio than DC+Boston+Philadelphia.
Not to mention Indy, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Cleveland, St Louis & Kansas City.
But thank your lucky stars you have NY to give you credibility.

Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit are corporate centers. It isn't a shock to me if they're more prominent for the private (business) sector over Washington, Boston, and Philadelphia.
Washington and Boston's economy thrive off the public sphere where you cant tabulate large corporations for their success. Government (state and federal), education, healthcare, research and development, architecture and public transportation, so on.
Realistically the only very formidable city in Bos-Wash for the corporate world is New York. Boston and Washington are just an entirely different economy and their value as cities are derived from other strengths.

Yawns. Outside of the island of Manhattan, no congressional district in the entire Northeast is as drenched in rich and powerful people as Pelosi's district.
