That's what I don't get either. Some people seem to care way more about quantity than they do about quality.

And what does Nike shoes (which I do not wear) have to do with a symbol of America, as it pertains to the SoL or the Hollywood sign.

Are you so caught up in your own WASPiness that you can't admit the virtue of ALL immigrants coming to this nation? from both oceans from ALL continents.

What about African Americans who built the White House or the Capitol Building?-well the entire city of Washington was built at the hand of black slaves. What might their symbol be? Would you seriously deny them their due rights and recognition?

I can't believe I have to even defend such a statement.

Who built the railway or build the White House has as much to do with American symbols as who made the Nikes I am wearing right now, that for many outside of the US are a symbol of America as much as Coca-Cola and chewing gum. Do you get it?

Nobody is denying anybody any rights, stop whining. I am simply stating the obvious which is that Europe shaped America much more than any other continent. Unlike Japan, China or Somalia the US is a part of the Western Culture. Would you deny that, too?

Maybe coming from across the Atlantic they do, but on the Pacific coast, the entire Pacific rim looks to LA due to stronger affinities and connections with that city than NYC.

Somebody lied to you.
That's probably the closest thing he's ever said to the truth. People across the Pacific do look to LA before any of the East coast cities. Vice Versa for Europeans.

Very true, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a place where the Hollywood sign is more recognized as a symbol of America then the Statue of Liberty. Even in Asia.

Oh no, if you read my posts from the first page, then I already established and credited the Statue of Liberty and even threw in some history lessons about it.

I just meant as in a more of a generalized "gateway city" type of way, he's actually right, Asia finds LA more appealing as a gateway city over NYC, versus Europe for NYC over LA.

The SOL is also a much more accurate symbol. You are far more likely to live a life of freedom in America than you are to becoming a movie star, no matter where you live.

Never thought of it that way, yeah that's a great way to look at it.
