What would you consider the safest major cities in this country? Where you can walk downtown alone at night with no problems, relatively speaking. I do realize reagardless if you are in Seattle or Detroit there will always be riff raff in big cities. With the state of the economy crime stats go up. What cities do you feel relatively safe in?

I personally don't consider Anchorage "major", otherwise I'd have voted for it. But my vote went to Seattle, and I would definitely remark Portland as very safe.

Ironically......... the safest places i've ever seen had no official police officers(That could get there in less than 12 hours anyway).

I think thats called the honor system.

Granted.... There was a much stronger sense of community in those places, than anything you can find in the U.S.

On that poll I picked San Diego, which is statistically ranked one of the safest cities, and almost doesn't feel like an American city, since most American cities are known to have crime problems. San Diego may have its problem areas and some gangs, but nothing compared to the hoods of cities like New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, etc.

NYC is also ranked among the safest per capita, not sure if its above SD or not. LA is also pretty safe despite people's image. That city has also cleaned up a lot since 15-20 years ago, about as much as NYC has. I also felt pretty safe in Seattle, even though some parts of Downtown are sketchy.

I wonder if Detroit will get any votes in this poll, lol.

Detroit, has seen the worst of it, there is a brighter day coming for that city, because from death comes life.
