The bay area feels a lot larger but that is probably due to density

No, the Atlanta metro area has more people than the San Francisco Metro area. The San Francisco/San Jose CSA has more people than the Atlanta CSA.

Out of sympathy, I voted Atlanta. But honestly, SF is probably one the most urban cities in the country. NYC, Boston, SF-Oakland, Chicago(due to its CBD), and DC probably standout even among the larger cities as being urban among urbans. However, this does not diminsh how truly Atlanta is. It is sunbelt urban, built around multiple nuclei of development, based automotive transportation.

Does Atlanta only have votes out of sympathy or pity on this poll?

It all depends on what urban means to you.

For some reason a lot of people use the term urban as a synonym for black (I hate that by the way) thus you get terms like "Urban music" and "Urban fashion". In that case then Atlanta and it's not even close.

But if talking about density and walkability then san francisco obviously.
