Not rain in this parade, but these are not brownstones; these are brick.

Brownstones don't have to be fully made out of a brownish sandstone material. As long as the brownstone has some kind of sandstone trim, or border design it can be considered a brownstone since having a sandstone base material is very expensive as it is. Also, Brownstones usually have an elevated stoop to the front entrance, higher than the average stoop at that (4-8 steps) and usually have a basement entrance below the sidewalk (or beside the exterior stairs to the stoop). Row home front doors usually meet at the ground or the stoop is only 2-4 steps up without a basement entrance out front.

If they aren't brownstones, than they're something similar. No need to start raining.

Haa, I felt like my thread got a lot of criticism in a short period of time. I kind of knew that before I posted though... (CD)

I was thinking about posting the famous Baltimore marble steps but they resemble more like row homes than brownstones. I love Baltimore's abundant row homes regardless.

anyway,

Just so were're all sure what a brownstone is:

"Brownstone is a brown Triassic sandstone which was once a popular building material. The term is also used in the United States to refer to a terraced house (rowhouse) clad in this material"

So, MrRedd, in Baltimore, there are only brick/formstone rowhouses with marblesteps, and not brownstones. Brownstones with marble steps might either look really really good or just awkward! i would really like to see that!

Here's another Baltimore example of brownstones

I know @ billiam.. i just called them brownstones for the sake of the topic... I think we have the most diverse rowhouses in the group tho.
