Go see a U of MI (the Gophers are the real U of M) game at the big house.... After your mind is blown, come see me.
Madison is also an awesome city, coupled with the Badgers!
I always envied seeing College Football or Basketball games where the student body is just going nuts and there seems to be such a rich college tradition... definitely do not have that here...
I think of places like Football in the south - Alabama, LSU, Florida, Auburn, etc. and then Basketball like Duke, UNC, the list goes on I gues, all those ACC schools... Such rich traditions and the college kids going crazy!
I'd say Ann Arbor, Madison, Chapel Hill, and Berkeley are the best college towns. They are all extremely vibrant, home to four the of best universities in the nation, have tons of school spirit, high quality of life, great college bars, lively college sports culture, and they all offer some big city amenities/culture. Ann Arbor, Madison, Chapel Hill, and Berkeley just have the perfect combination of world class academics and top notch college life.
Austin is a great place to be for college, but it is more on the verge of being a big city, so I wouldn't exactly call it a college town. The same could be said about Columbus, although that isn't an option in this poll.
Gainesville, Boulder, Athens, and State College are cool college towns too.

I used to go to school in Ann Arbor for my first year of college.
I now go to Austin for school.
The two are very different, but I do not know which one I would rather prefer;
Medium Sized City- Ann Arbor
Big City- Austin
