Tier 1 in no order
Houston
Atlanta
Dallas
Miami
DC (if you're going to include NOVA)

There really isn't anything close to these cities
Tier 2
New Orleans
Charlotte
San Antonio
Fort Worth
Tampa St-Pete
Orlando

Tier 3
Austin (tho very close to tier 2)
Jacksonville
Memphis
Nashville
Raleigh (also very close to tier 2)
Tidewater/Hampton Roads area
and a few more.
That list is very accurate...

Southern Tiers;

Washington DC automatically in a class by itself (If it's included as southern)

Tier 1:
Houston
Atlanta
Dallas
Miami
(No particular order)

Tier 2A:
Nashville
New Orleans
Austin
Orlando

Tier 2B: (It is nothing less than 2A, just a different sort-These are also noticeably small cities)
Savannah
Charleston

Tier 3:
Jacksonville
San Antonio
Fort Worth
Tampa
Charlotte
Louisville
Memphis

Tier 4:
Oklahoma City
Tulsa
Knoxville
Raleigh
Fort Lauderdale

Tier 5:
Mobile
Corpus Christi
Birmingham
Little Rock

El Paso is omitted from the list because it is not southern, it is southwestern/western.

Tier 1 - These are all minor world-class cities. Tampa is a
"high sufficiency" world city, so I don't think it qualifies as a Tier1.
Atlanta
Houston
Miami
Dallas-Ft. Worth

Tier 1A
Tampa Bay-St.Pete - I think Tampa goes here. It's a notch above the Tier 2 cities because of its size, population, and its importance in FL (behind Miami), but it is definitely not a Tier 1.

Tier 2
New Orleans
Charlotte
Raleigh
Nashville
Orlando

Tier 3
Other cities not going to even try to name all the important ones at this level

Tier 4
Small cities, towns, and rural places
El Paso
Jacksonville
Made some notes.

If you're just going by GaWC than we wouldn't need this thread not to mention Orlando and Charlotte are both listed on the same level as Tampa according to GaWC so then would you put both of them in the 1a bracket as well?

I mentioned other factors above besides the GaWC rankings.

What is your tier 2b reasoning especially over Charlotte, San Antonio, and Tampa?
