From what I've read on this thread so far;
Kansas City- Most people are in agreement that it's purely Midwestern.
The two harder ones;
Louisville and Pittsburgh- from that map I see two posts ago, the two cities really do cradle to two regions, they're bound to have large influence from both regions they border.
being a born and bread Pittsburgh'er I can tell you we are a strong Northeastern City....Pittsburgh identifies more with Philly, NYC, and DC than it does Chicago, Cleveland Indianapolis or Cincinnati....
Pittsburgh'er take day trips to VA Beach or Jersey shore, NOT to the lakes.. Pittsburgh'ers take shopping trips to NYC not to Chicago....
Pittsburgh's 3 largest hinterland cities are DC Philly and NYC in that order and Pittsburgh is in the 4 of of the same cities hinterlands....Pittsburgh and Cleveland are number 10 on each others Hinterland.
As close as Ohio is to Pittsburgh you will find many many born and bread Pittsburgh'er (myself included) that DO NOT go to Ohio..Ohio is not in our realm, we would rather track 5 hr across PA or 4hrs to DC rather than an 1hr Drive to OH.
You ask any native Pittsburgh'er where is Pittsburgh located they will tell you in the Northeast or on the East Coast...
I'm from the Midwest, and Pittsburgh has always struck me as an East Coast city. I usually think of Pittsburgh along with NYC, Boston, Philly, etc., not Chicago or Detroit.
what i dont get, is how on earth do you justify splitting the bluegrass region in half? that line is just plain wrong
this is the bluegrass region. it is a solid entity. cynthiana and richmond are not in two different culture regions.
also, how can you think of ashland KY, which is appalachian, as midwest. it seems as though an arbitrary straight line has simply been drawn from louisville to the southern border of delaware, and its inaccurate. its not that simple.
All of Kentucky is Southern. All of it. I don't see how anyone could think it is Midwest.
Yes, thank you, you've already said that.
