L.A & it's not even close ,Every year L.A ranks in the top 2 with a city in Hawaii as worst traffic in America ,some of these east coasters love being bias when it comes to tha city of angels,Nothing worser than tha 405/which by tha way is tha busiest freeway system in tha world ,even tha city streets are crowded ,why you think they're trying build that subway extension to tha airport and Santa Monica /L.A traffic is a nightmare 24hrs day.....80% of Nyc people rely on transportation and don't even drive ,While in L.A tha majority of everyone has a car /10 million people in tha county and half are coming in to Downtown L.A everyday to work should let you know how bad tha traffic is .....
I think New York City traffic and LA traffic are nearly equal. I have been on google street view and the virtual drive from Los Angeles Int'l Airport to Downtown LA was packed with cars on the freeway. In New York City, street traffic is crazy along with very fast taxi drivers. Also, freeway traffic from NJ into Midtown Manhattan/Downtown NYC is bad with bumper-to-bumper mayhem in the Lincoln Tunnel and the Long Island Expressway westbound route is as congested as the Cross Bronx Expressway after crossing the George Washington Bridge from NJ to NY.
I don't know how NYers drive in NY, but in the Baltimore area, they tend to drive too slowly to be in the fast lane. When ever there's someone slowing down the fast lane, 90% of the time it can be attributed to one of 3 causes; a NYer is one of the 3 causes.
LA isn't at all walkable (outside of parts of parts of Venice Beach and Hollywood) whereas NYC is incredibly walkable and has excellent public transit. There is zero need for anyone living in NYC to ever drive a car.
Manhattan has the worst traffic of all. However outside Manhattan LA has it worse. Freeways LA is worse even compared to Manhattan (it's freeways, but not its regular streets).
