Columbus should defiantly be more around number 21. Younger, more vibrant, large gay scene (hey that does add excitement, large young professional population, lively areas around downtown. It is defiantly more hopping than Hartford, Pittsburgh. Being not overshadowed by a much larger city nearby it draws large tours/concerts that pass over many other cities ahead of it on the list.
Those cities I highlighted have nothing on Kansas City. Especially Memphis. Why is Memphis ranked so high???
Because it has almost 24 hour Beale Street,
An accessible story of the living history of authentic American music, born almost exclusively within 200 miles of Memphis and delivered to the world,
World impacting entreprenuers who introduced the world to: the modern franchised hotel, overnight air package delivery, the supermarket concept, the rooftop revolving restaurant, the aerotropolis distribution concept, on demand overnight delivery of prosthetic components to surgeons just prior to surgery, etc.,
A 32 story stainless steel 2/3 scale model of Ramses The Great's Pyramid sitting on its skyline,
The world's largest outdoor festival,
Giant Pandas, Polar Bears, a free roaming Buffalo herd, Grizzlies, Grey Wolves, Elk, and almost everything else available for observation,
Home port to the U.S.'s largest Paddlewheel Riverboat embarking on 3 to 11 night cruises from the foot of Beale Street all over the navigable river systems,
A grand hotel lobby which has featured ducks marching down to the lobby fountain and back to the rooftop morning and evening for 79 years escorted by a "Duckmaster",
Unfortunately I have no time to finish my list. Maybe someone can take it up!
Boredom is a state of mind. They're doing that to themselves and whining about it?
Self inflicted lack of thought isn't something a city does to a person.
It isn't where you are, it is what you do that is important.
Agreed. I'm not a big traveler, so I've only been to about 10 of the cities listed, but I'm sure every one of those places has something fun to do. It's a matter of getting out there and exploring the town. I highly doubt the OP has even been to all 50 of them, let alone spent enough time to form an educated opinion.
Out of the few I've been to, I'd say my favorite cities, besides KC, are NYC, DC, and Savannah, in no particular order. Although, Savannah's summers freaking killed me. If it wasn't roasting, it was raining. I swear it poured at least once a day, but the upside to that was the gorgeous foliage. And, well, I have a love for skyscrapers, architecture, and crowded cities. So, that's where NYC and DC come in.
