How about if I judged the entire state of California by living in Fresno, or the entire state of Texas by living in Waco? That's just senseless.
I agree, Akhenaton06! Winston-Salem or the Triad region as a whole should not be a measuring stick for comparing NC as a whole. Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte are areas that are full of transplants. I don't know how much time that poster has spent in either Charlotte or Raleigh, but I know those 2 areas are MUCH different from the Triad region, period, as both Charlotte and Raleigh are much more vibrant and progressive than Greensboro or Winston-Salem!

Its not NYC by any means, but it has the best you will find this side of the Mason-Dixon line outside of Miami. Houston is right up with Dallas as far as amenities but the culture is a bit different. Houston is more southern and is not as uptight and fashion conscious as Dallas. Atlanta is simply not impressive in any way. Its too sprawled to feel like a real city and the nightlife is very spread out. It is also notorious for having much higher crime than Dallas or Houston. Charlotte, while nice, is more of a family city than a singles city, and Raleigh is just too small. Bottom line...Dallas or Houston are the only real choices in your list.
Why do people keep saying that Charlotte is to family-oriented? Maybe I don't hang out in the more suburban sections of Charlotte, but when I'm in Uptown or other areas surrounding Uptown, all I see are young singles and I feel the nightlife is pretty decent! Neither Uptown Charlotte nor the surrounding areas of Uptown is family-oriented. The further south you go in Charlotte, starting @ South Park Mall, is where it gets more suburban and family-centered!

Dallas is awesome, it is just a nicer version of Houston. Houston is always humid has a much higher poverty rate, and there is more to do in Dallas as well.

All the aforementioned cities are nice, but I suppose it would come down to where you could find work. I live in Charlotte and love it here, but jobs are a bit tight, much like everywhere else. Good luck in your search!

Its sounds like the OP wants something pretty big Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte are mid size but Atlanta,Houston and Dallas look like better fits for what you want.
