Just because I'm actually that bored. Wiki is a primary source for information on things like cities for millions of people around the world. This list should give insight into what cities the world is curious about. Feel free to skim over the list and see if I missed any.

U.S. cities in bold. Data from 2009:

1. New York City* - 18,251 hits per day - Overall rank in terms of all Wikipedia pages: 80
2. London - 13,809 - 135
3. Singapore - 10,739 - 235
4. Los Angeles** - 10,646 - 241
5. Paris - 9,543 - 311
6. Dubai - 9,464 - 318
7. Chicago - 8,658 - 394
8. Rome - 7,901 - 483
9. Washington D.C. - 7,438 - 552
10. Hong Kong - 7,243 - 594
11. Amsterdam - 6,100 - 845
12. Mumbai - 6,022 - 867
13. Tokyo - 5,967 - 882
14. Barcelona - 5,718 - 963
15. Toronto - 5,699 - 973
16. Berlin - 5,325 - 1132
17. Venice - 5,160 - 1197
18. Vancouver - 4,899 - 1319
19. Istanbul - 4,746 - 1402
20. Shanghai - 4,678 - 1450

* The page "New York" (as in state) received on average 7,282 views per day, but I did not include this number because it is primarily the state of New York's page, not the city
** Based on combined total of "Los Angeles" and "Los Angeles, California"

The NYC, LA, and Chicago mention isn't surprising, but I am actually more surprised to not see San Francisco on there...

My thoughts exactly. Same with Miami - neither made the list.

Of those Venice, Italy looks like it gets the most attention compared to size. Although Dubai, Singapore, and Vancouver also get a good deal of attention compared to size. The largest cities that did not make it include Mexico City, Sao Paolo, and Seoul. Seoul is somewhere between Detroit and Madrid on the list while Mexico City is below Rio De Janeiro but above Detroit. I'm not sure I saw Sao Paolo in the top 3000.

The largest US cities that I could not find in the top 3000 include Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Phoenix, and San Francisco.

And some things or phrases I saw make me want to wash out my eyeballs.

I am not surprised about the top 10, although I think I miss some cities. I am glad to see European cities in the top, but where is the famous Paris then?

Paris is number 5.

Also, do these hits take in redirects (for when people type in acronyms and the like)?

I'm really surprised Singapore comes in so high! It just doesn't seem like it's in the news that often, or is that big of a draw. Not like Paris or anything...

I'm actually pretty surprised San Francisco didn't make the list too. Oh well...

And yea, I refuse to believe anybody outside of this website would ever think of Chicago as "backwater" haha.
