We are selling our house in Bone Cave, TN due to my husband's medical issues. Looking to down size to a single level home. The house is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath brick faced home with one car attached garage on 7.25 acres. There is a concrete block wall that divides the front yard from the six plus acres of pasture out back. The front of the home faces the mountains and provides a great view of the mountain rising each morning.

The entire house has undergone a full renovation over the last year; we are finishing the three room master suite now. New upgrades since 2006 include new installation of HVAC, new roof, new septic, new upgraded electric, all entry doors and tons of built ins. Almost all of the following have also been replaced and upgraded; windows, flooring, paint. We added a tremendous amount of storage with cabinets, closets, shelves, etc.

On the main level is an open concept living space with kitchen and breakfast bar, living space with built in entertainment center, corner display hutch original to the house, book cases and shelves, as well as a dining room with a built in buffet. A very large 15x16 room with closet could be a fourth bedroom. Down one step is a large mud room with tons of cabinet and shelving space, as well as expansive counter space for lots of storage. Through the mud room is the over size laundry room.

Down a couple steps off the great room is a very large L shaped den extra high ceilings, a fireplace, tile floors and floor to ceiling windows. Double french doors lead to an original circular brick patio out front. The room is light and bright and one of my personal favorite rooms in the house. Off the den is the master suite, made up of a sleeping room, dressing room with his and hers closets, and a two room master bathroom. There is a door off the dressing room that leads to the back patio. Originally the dressing room was a fifth bedroom and for a larger family it could easily be converted back.

Upstairs are two huge bedrooms measuring 14x17 each. Each room has a very large bench for sitting. Both rooms have new flooring and paint. The front room has a great view of the mountains across the road and the neighbors pasture; our daughter loved sitting on the window seat up there and watching the horses play and the cattle run. The back room has a view of the back pasture and our daughter would sit and watch her horse out back from her room.

Attached to the back side of the garage is a large room that is currently used as a hen house for our chickens, ducks and goats. It was originally a shop for the former owner and could be converted back. It has power to the room and I'd planned on making it an outdoor kitchen and bar once we put in a large barn in the pasture, but we never got around to it.

Beside the house next to the drive way that leads out to the pasture in the back is a storage building with a double loft inside. Provides a lot of storage; we can easily fit all of our yard tools including a riding mower and a push mower in there with shelves and have plenty room to walk around.

Listed at $157,000. Must be pre-approved for showing or show proof of cash funds available. No owner finance, rent to own or rentals. Photos have been taken over the last year; some are current and some are not. For more information you can contact our realtor, Paul Walker, with DM Simpson Realtors. 931-808-9003

Some info on the area:

Bone Cave is located in middle Tennessee, at the base of the Cumberland Plateau. The county seat is Spencer with a population of roughly 1600 people. Home to Fall Creek Falls state park, Van Buren County is one of the smallest and most rural counties in the state. Less than 200 people call Bone Cave home and most have families that go back generations. Once you've been fortunate enough to live here, very few leave.

The school system in Van Buren County is outstanding. It's a very small school, currently housed in two buildings, and students come from several counties. While the courses are basic the administration is not. They all know that the students here are the future of the mountain and who they will be relying on when their golden years come. That shows in every single way with this school system. The teachers rotate volunteering to tudor students for free after school and it's common for them to even take them home after words if there is no other transportation available.

Temperatures here are very mild. Winters usually get down in the teens and twenties with a few snowfalls of an inch or two. Summers run in the 90s with only a short amount of time of higher humidity. Insects aren't nearly as prevalent here as many of the other southern parts of the country so it's possible to spend year round outdoors, exploring the caves, waterfalls, hiking trails and other wonderful activities the area has to offer.

Rock Island State Park is just across the highway from Bone Cave, a short five minute drive. Enjoy the waterfalls, the hiking trails, the beach and the waterways by boat from one of the many of the marinas. Guided hikes run a good portion of the year out of the park and are free. Some even go up to Bone Cave itself.

Bone Cave was discovered in 1811 and named for an ancient giant ground sloth skeleton found inside. The cave was mined for saltpeter during the war of 1812 and the Civil War. Archeologist have found that mining in the cave was done by American Indians as far back as 3000 years ago. Because the cave is so dry, archeologists have also found some amazing artifacts including cave torches that date back to around 1050 BC. Other finds include mocassins, gourd fragments, a woven fiber bag, and the fossils of an ancient jaguar. The cave is the 7th longest mapped in the state with 9.6 miles of surveyed passages. The state now owns the cave and the interior is closed to visitors, but the hikes will take you right to the entrance and you can peer inside the bars that line it.
