Hi everyone,

I will be moving to Cleveland in about 3 months, and I would like some suggestions in regards to suburbs. I have heard that the west suburbs have less snow is that true? I don't like snow at all, except when I am home. I am looking for a quiet/safe community with lots of parks/metroparks (I enjoy nature and I have 2 little dogs). I have heard good things about Rocky River, Sheffield Lake, and North Olmstead. I don't have kids, so school system is not a concern. Is forrent.com the best place to look for apartments? I appreciate any suggestions, thank you in advance!

I used to live in Cleveland and I may have to move back also. West Cleveland has less snow than the East Side but there is plenty of snow in the west side also. Rocky River is nice.

I am a life-long west-sider, and I can say that the western suburbs you mentioned get less snow than the eastern suburbs, which are considered the snow belt. There is also a secondary snow belt that includes southern suburbs. That being said, yes we do get snow, but the closer to the Lake western suburbs get, the less snow they get during a season,

I don't know where you will be working and what type of suburb you are looking for. Rocky River and Lakewood are more walkable suburbs, lots of rentals there, but many are double homes. (craigslist is a great place to look for doubles for rent) In most sections of North Olmsted you would need a car, but there are apartment complexes close to the mall and strip shopping. North Olmsted has many more apartment complexes.

As for distance to downtown, Lakewood and Rocky River are the closest, with North Olmsted taking a few more minutes. But, they all have access to freeways and bus routes to downtown.

Good luck to you! Feel free to PM me if I can answer any specific questions.

Western suburbs get less snow. Rocky River and Lakewood would be a good choice. North Olmsted is nice and has very easy access to the freeway, so getting to Cleveland proper is not hard unless you hit rush hour, which is not bad in Cleveland.

I live in Oakwood Estates in Olmsted Township (Right on the border of North Olmsted). Nice and big size apartments and about a quarter mile from the highway. I would also look into Westlake. Nice suburb with a lot of apartment options.

Thank you for all the replies, they are well appreciated! I'll be working downtown, so it looks like Rocky River, Lakewood and Westlake will be closer than Avon Lake and Sheffield Lake. I also imagine that the price gets higher with the lesser distance. So, among Rocky River, Westlake and Lakewood, which one would you say is the most well maintained one?

I would have to say Westlake is the most well maintained, then Rocky River, then Lakewood. But they are all beautiful. Lakewood is dense, urban, great neigbhorhood, beautiful skyline and lake views, Rocky River has great looking homes, and is a more inner ring urban suburb, then Westlake is more sprawly, livable, good shopping, newer housing.

Good luck!

Also, Forrent is not bad actually. Just type in the individual suburb. You would have better luck then typing in Cleveland because you would get all of the city of Cleveland, as well as the metro area which is over 2 million people.

Look in to Lakewood or Rocky River. Westlake is soul-less McMansions. Lakewood and Rocky River offer an amazing park system, and I do mean amazing. They are safe and offer easy access to downtown, including plenty of public transportation lines if you want to keep the car parked.

pluggedincleveland.com is a good site, too.
