it was revealed that White may have traded construction and parking contracts at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport for bribes that were paid through Gray. Federal prosecutors are reportedly investigating these corruption charges.[5]

Hopefully Franky can get out and talk to the people, and get some of these projects that keep getting delayed.... to actually breaking ground.

In spite of it being Wikipedia, he was a Cleveland politician and that means it comes with its share of corruption/nepotism. If that(wikipedia) it not true, then I'm sure he's got other things hidden in his closet.

You can put a blank where you have Cleveland. ALL cities, big and small, have issues with corruption and especially nepotism. Cleveland is not unique in these areas.

Obviously, but Cleveland and Cuyahoga's form of corruption/nepotism along with poor planning, etc has enabled the city to stumble around for 20+ years. We elect the same type of people who promise all sorts of stuff, and in the end the city has not advanced all too much. A medical mart and newly redone Euclid corridor won't be the end all for the city. Our medical sector is great, but you need more than that to have a functional city.

It's a complex issue and involves many levels from National, State, and Local policies to family issues and everything in between. As we've learned from Obama, one man can't flick his finger and solve something by himself, however mayors do have an impact and the quality of our Mayors has left much to be desired.

Look at Pittsburgh, They've faced the same issues as Cleveland has(and still do) yet seem to have made at least a bit more progress than Cleveland to host the G20 summit in 2009. Instead we get the gay games.

I'd like to see a business person, political outsider or even some random person to become mayor. I'm sure they'd do just as good as our past 3 have done.

Yes, look at Pittsburgh. It's an OK place, but it isn't any better than Cleveland. Pittsburgh proper has been aided more by its unaccomodating geography and horrendous commute times than anything else. The suburbs of Pittsburgh are largely a joke. And, hosting the G20 summit isn't a huge accomplishment nor is it all that important for economic stimulation in the cities it is held in. It basically brings about 1,000 attendees and 10,000 protesters into town for 2-3 days. I wouldn't call that the best metric. On the contrary, the "gay games" will bring over 10,000 participants and even more spectators into the city for 1-2 weeks (along with $80 million). Why do you think so many cities wanted to land the event?

I'd have more pride in my city for hosting the G20 summit than the Gay Games. For having under 400k population and not really a major US city and getting the right to host something that has been reserved for major world cities is at least somewhat of an honor. They sure as hell would not host it in Cleveland or Detroit.

As for the Gay Games, it's a stupid pointless idea. We've got the regular and special Olympics and if you're not good enough to make it into that, then though. Flaunting your sexual choice and political view through a set of wanna-be olympic games is idiotic. It's just as pointless as white power, black power, etc games would be.

As for the economic impact, the gay games have a history of losing money even in big gay friendly cities, with the host cities putting in extra taxpayer money. As much as they want to say it'll be a economic success, it probably won't happen if a city like Chicago can only make them break even by pumping in more funds. Washington DC and Boston would have been more suited for hosting than us.

Back to the OP, ... my answer is "absolutely", I'd vote for Mike again... Yes, he was an arse-hole and his admin was corrupt (who isn't these days? ask Jimmy Dimora or soon-to-be-jailed, ex-sheriff Gerald McFaul)... Despite this, Cleveland has never, in recent times, exploded with such positive growth (and more importantly, optimism) in White's term. He spearheaded inner-city growth, with new high-quality housing in dead areas (like Hough) and Scovill (look at Longwood estates) and on the West Side. Even though Voinovich won the Rock Hall, White got it built when it was threatening to go back to New York. The Great Lakes Science Center was built, as well as the Gateway stadiums -- awesome Jacobs Field and the (then) Gund Arena... Downtown housing in the Warehouse District took off and the 1st steps were taken toward upgrading main street districts in Detroit-Shoreway, Univ. Circle and Ohio City -- with all 3 now really coming into their own...

Mike wasn't perfect, but he has got to be the best most progressive mayor in Cleveland since, well, perhaps Tom Johnson around 1900!

Well we do have between 10-20 planned projects or projects ready to break ground now so we are progressing post '90s era. Some projects are the Med Mart, Convention Center, Casino, MOCA's new building, Uptown residential project, Colt 27 town homes, Circle 118 town homes, VA hospital expansion, and the Cleveland State University expansion including a new north campus project, brand new dorms, and a student center, these are just a few projects planned, being built now, or ready to break ground.
