Do you consider it in the Midwest or more Eastern. I'm in Minnesota now, and let me tell you there is a world of difference between here which I think of as the "real" midwest and Cleveland. What do you guys think?

I agree that Cleveland is noticeably different than the central Midwest, but technically you would have to call it Midwest because Ohio is classified as a Midwest state. This is obviously not a black and white thing however, because political boundaries do not tell the whole story. I would say Cleveland is most similar to Western New York (Buffalo & Rochester areas) if you want to put state and regional labels aside.

I live in central Michigan and I can say Cleveland does feel a little bit more attatched to the northeast. This is especially true east of the city. Other Ohio citys feel very midwestern, say like Dayton or Toledo. Cleveland is where Ohio starts to take on a northeastern influence. Dont get me wrong, im not denying that it is still a midwestern city, but to me it just feels different than other midwestern towns.

Cleveland is a midwestern metropolis ... but with a distinctive 'east coast' flair and an east coast aura.
Many can trace this 'eastern feel' to the first settlers being from New England, and many are also unaware that Cleveland belonged to what was called the 'Western Reserve' of the state of Connecticut.

In many ways, Cleveland reminds me of other large eastern cities ... Philadelphia and New York City, though on a smaller scale.

Cleveland is Midwest, but it shares some similarities with the Northeast. It's sort of like a mix of Midwest cities like St. Louis and Milwaukee and Northeast cities like Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

Its midwest the way Chicago, Milwaulkee and Detroit are Midwest. Its east the way Buffalo is the east. Cleveland reminds me probably most like Chicago.

It's not like Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Boston are "east" ...its not like the Northeast Megalopolis or whatever they call that area nowadays..the belt of cities running from DC up through Boston.

I don't get much of an 'eastern' feel to the place because the build-out looks more like those other Great Lakes cities. Culturally it seems more influenced by the eastern/southern European white ethnic thing, though I think the latino element is more Puerto Rican, which is more like the East Coast (but Chicago had this, too).

Cleveland is the Midwest.

Why do people on this forum think that the Midwest is monolithic? Some might argue that the industrial, Great Lakes Midwest is even more "Midwestern"--whatever that means--than the rural, Great Plains Midwest.
