Hey all,

I've recently found a rental property that looks great in all possible ways (price, amenities, proximity to work, etc.) and was ready to sign a lease but have received some feedback that this area might not be safe from a (soon to be) work colleague. I was really disappointed as I've had a tough time trying to find something that I feel really comfortable with from a distance and felt like my search was finally over.

I wanted to see if I could get some opinions from folks familiar with the area. The property is on Warrensville Center Rd between Meadowbrook and Fairmount (really close to John Carroll). Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I wouldn't be worried about it. Very safe, not sure where your colleague got that information from.

Yeah why would someone say something like that about university heights??? That was the wrong information....That area is one of the safest around....University Height police keeps things together...They will NOT let that area get out of hand at all!!!!...Plus you have your surrounding areas, Shaker Heights, Beachwood, and Cleveland Heights

The reason he probably said that is because the area around Warrensville in University Heights is largely African American. It's a sad fact of living in Cleveland that there is still considerable lingering racial tension leftover from the 1960s. But in reality it's a fine area, very safe, I live right around that area on Fairmount.

This is one of those times where it's good to not listen to word of mouth and come to city-data lol. That area is perfectly fine. Or have Ben and Jerry's recently gained a reputation for having shops in unsafe high crime neighborhoods now?

Very safe area. The demographics of that area is a mixture of a young (mostly African-American) families and college-aged (mostly white) students. Nothing unsafe about that area at all. The police station is about a half-mile down the road, too.

It's a nice area because as already mentioned, there's a Ben & Jerry's there. What more could you ever want??

Haha, seriously, though, that's a nice, convenient spot because it's near a rapid station (not sure where you'll be working, but if it's in the city, the rapid would be a great option for you!) It's also close to some shopping nearby that includes Whole Foods, Target, Macy's, TJ Maxx, etc.

As you can tell, I spend some time around there and I've never felt unsafe or threatened. I hope you enjoy living there!
