I have to assume that we have the most negative people on the planet living in NE Ohio. Anytime something good happens, the majority of the comments become essays on why the city still sucks. Something bad happens, and everyone starts commenting about how they can't wait to leave.

Maybe the city wouldn't have so many problems if people would stop complaining and actually try to improve it for a change.

Systemic changes cannot happen with uncommitted candidates standing up for elections, low voter turnout, I think.

It's a NE Ohio/Ohio thing. I see the same thing in the Cantonrep.com, Vindy.com (Youngstown) and Tribtoday.com (Warren) comments.

Look at any struggling city website; it's the same everywhere.

Oh, no, it's not just Cleveland. Try the Cincinnati Enquirer's website. The comments have been a little watered down since Gannett moved to a Facebook-based comment system, but it still gets pretty rollickin'!

Very true! It's definitely not just a NE Ohio thing, it's an Ohio thing. At the University of Cincinnati, I hear the Cinci natives complain about how much the city sucks, and then the Clevelanders complain about how much Cincinnati AND Cleveland sucks.

Cincinnati is a very unique city and Cleveland is a culturally enriched city, yet there is virtually zero civic pride in both cities.

No... it's a HUMAN thing. People that don't travel much, don't explore thier city much and have never lived anywhere else always complain about where they live. Generally speaking.
People that have moved here don't complain like natives do.
It's the same in every city in America. It is not strictly "an Ohio thing".

Yep, this is not even close to a Cleveland/NEO phenomenon. Malcontention and ignorance is everywhere.

I've often read the Comments sections in articles in the Chicago Tribune and seen the same kind of negativity and griping.

Ooo, you'd be a happier person if you stayed away from those comments.

I don't think it's a regional thing. It's just too easy to make a hasty comment on the internet that maybe you wouldn't make in real life. People feel that they can say anything and be as mean as they want to be behind their screen name, so it can sometimes get a little out of control.
