My wife & I will be there on Monday 6/18, leaving from Erie around 10am and driving over. Is there anything worth seeing on that drive, anything along the lake, or should we just stay on I-90? Can you recommend a good lunch place along the way?

We have a few hours in Cleveland that afternoon and evening. We plan to catch that night's Indians-Reds game. We may also see the Rock and Roll HOF but we're not convinced of that yet. In the downtown area, what do you suggest we see / do in the few hours we have there? Where's a good place for dinner near Progressive Field, especially one with a Cleveland flavor, or unique to the area? How about a bar after the game for a mug of a good local brew?

Our interests are history, good natural scenery, sports, local interests and local foods, and military - I'm a retired USMC veteran. We fly out at 0600 Tuesday morning, so there's no time for seeing anything, not even time for breakfast.

Thanks in advance.

Since you have limited time I would suggest heading straight here on 90.
You like the military and history? How about Military History??
I'd say head straight to The Cod.

USS COD HOMEPAGE

For a casual dinner I would say head to Panini's on 9th street. Get there a little early. That is a Cleveland original restaurant/bar. Home of the "famous" Panini stuffed sandwich. (Fries and slaw on the sandwich).

Something a little less "bar" and more "restaurant", maybe the Cleveland Chop House.

After the game there are a lot of bars in the area. I would recommend the Winking Lizard or the Clevelander.

You have a lot of options in the area. Personally, I would check out The Greenhouse Tavern on E.4th for dinner and drinks.

I would take a tour of Cleveland on Lolley the Trolley! You'll see some great sights and definitely learn some cool history of the city. (Lolly the Trolley - Trolley Tours of Cleveland)

Definitely be sure to go to the West Side Market on West 25th Street in Ohio City, just across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge from downtown. Great food! (The West Side Market: Clevelands Oldest and Most Trusted Market). While in Ohio City, you could also check out Great Lakes Brewing Company or Market Garden Brewery. Two of my favorite spots! Either place would be great for lunch and a beer.

Or consider going to the east side to University Circle or Little Italy. There are amazing places to eat in Little Italy and it has a really cool vibe to it. At University Circle, you could go to the art museum for free. (University Circle | Cleveland Ohio | Arts & Culture, Education & Medical District, LITTLE ITALY CLEVELAND - Little Italy an urban neighborhood).

Hope you enjoy your time here! Way too much to do for just one afternoon, so hopefully you'll come back!

All: many good ideas here.. These sound a whole lot better to us than the Rock and Roll HOF. Thank you.

I also have a free Saturday afternoon the following weekend. Are there any cute areas with small/unique shops? Im thinking something similar to Hyde Park Square (Cincinnati) or Shadyside (Pittsburgh).

What about the William G. Mather Museum? Anybody done that? It looks like there's definitely some Cleveland history there.
