Interesting link I found -- via someone on the Chicago forum -- that shows not only average annual number of "clear days" but also average annual "total hours of sunshine" for the largest US cities. It appears that Cleveland ranks near the bottom in both categories:

Average Annual Sunshine in US Cities - Current Results

You can also check out month-to-month data, if you wish.

^^as Sgt Joe Friday used to say 'just the facts, (ma'am)
I think your numbers are just a bit off the National Climatic Data Center says Cleveland has about 66 days of sun, atleas it isn't as bad as some towns in Alaska..but only by a few days.

I like this link better because it explains what makes a "CLear day" vs. a "Partly Cloudy day" vs. a "Cloudy Day" at the bottom:
Comparative Climate Data

For example, a "cloudy day" with 10 hours of daylight could still have up to 2 hours of clear sunshine.

According to the chart, on average, Cleveland has a total of 163 "clear" and "partly cloudy" days in a year. C_C's number of 182 doesn't seem that far off, to me.

It's all relative, CLE has 202 cloudy days, not many cities on list have over 200 cloudy days a year.

I reread the first 2 pages of this thread. (and see that I provided the same link at the top of page 2 ) It seems like we're having 2 different arguments. Some of us are arguing that Cleveland doesn't have gray skies all the time, and the statistics that lead many to believe that the skies are always gray, are misleading. But, no one is arguing that the statistics are wrong, and that Cleveland isn't one of the cloudier places in the US.

In northern climates it's a trade off, you can either have frigid temperatures and sunny, or somewhat warmer temperatures and cloudy. Personally, having lived in both climates, I don't really mind the clouds and snow. Though I can't say I prefer them, I do enjoy the benefits they provide, such as more snow and warmer temps.

I was just sick of hearing "The sun never comes out DEC-MAR." THAT is not true. Yes it is cloudy here. Just like Buffalo, and Detroit, and Minneapolis and many other northern cities. Yea, I like sunshine. Who doesn't? But clouds are good too. They keep us warmer at night. They make great sunsets.
