Mark Twain once said the "report of my death was an exaggeration". Perhaps the same thing can be said about the City of Cleveland.
While Cleveland's struggles are real, there are signs of a revival, particularly in Cleveland's downtown district. Moreover, select neighborhoods on the periphery of downtown are also showing signs of vitality. And while time will tell if the city is filling in its donut hole so to speak, the fact remains: there is a pulse.
Take the latest population figures in the 5 county metropolitan area. From 1990 to 2010, the City of Cleveland shrank, as did many of the suburban areas of Cuyahoga County. The growth mostly occurred in the increasingly exurban fringes of the metro, as well as on the edges of Cuyahoga County............................................ ......

Not even close to dead. The city is very much alive... changing, renewing, and alive.

This is true. I went out on a walk today downtown and saw a lot of people out on the streets. Were far from dead.

Downtown Cleveland has become a top place in the Midwest to live, work, and play.

Residential is 97% full, over $2 Billion in new construction, and 4 new hotels going in... Plus a new Convention Center, Aquarium, and Casino -- Definitely a fun place to be.

Downtown is definitely starting to thrive. Lots to do down there. I wish there were more places to live downtown though. Even though occupancy rates are very high, I still think we need another 10,000 living downtown. Can you imagine how great that would be?

Someone should build new apartment buildings in place of all those parking lots.

That all depends on how real the downtown renaissance is. Retail growth and continued conversions will help create demand for new construction.

I feel like more people need to live there to spur this retail growth.

They say 20,000 is a target number for a more "full service" downtown... grocery stores, retail all over, etc. I think Cleveland is around the 12,000 mark.

Before some developer comes in and starts building on those parking lots in the Warehouse District, I want to see the Ameritrust building turned into apartments/condos. Seems like it is pretty close whenever the county can come to a deal with a developer.
