Hello Everyone,

After 5 years, the family and I are returning to Cleveland. We have lived in Charlotte, NC during this time and while we like it, right now seems like the perfect time to return home. I have to admit that in this 5 years, I have returned home very little, and it seems that I have missed out on a lot. When I visited over the weekend, it seemed that the city was rejuvenated, and full of life. Of course, I ran into some "locals" who urged us not to consider it, and that they were also looking to move out of the city, but I miss my family, my home, and the familiarity that has long been gone from us.

My questions are:

~ my wife is transferring from her job here, to the office they have in Independence, and I will be working in Brooklyn, so where can we move to that's in close proximity that would have a great school system for our two elementary-aged boys? We are looking in Maple Heights simply b/c that's where my parents live, and from what I understand that city just built 3 new schools. Right now, their in public school, and well CMS is not the best at all, so I'm not necessarily trying to take them out of public school, but give them a better school system.

~ Also, my sons are in cub scouts here, as well as swimming, martial arts and sports, do anyone know of a place or places that offers any of this for a reasonable price?

I'm really excited about this move, I can not wait to come back home to share in life with our family. It can't be as bad as everyone makes it seems. In Charlotte, the city is great, but the locals are the same way, really pessimistic and negative about their city. While I was in Cleveland, I was able to see the opportunity and the growth because I finally see it from outside eyes. I'm really looking forward to doing what I can help others see the same.

But, anyways, any input would be helpful. Thank you!

I moved back from Raleigh, NC in Oct 2010 and haven't looked back. I admit, it took being away from Cleveland to truly appreciate what the city has to offer.

Enjoying myself in the Little Italy/Cleveland Hts/University Circle area.

Personally, I would pick somewhere like Brecksville or Solon over Maple Hts. I would argue Solon and Brecksville are getting better, while Maple is not.

I'm sure there are plenty of places in the above mentioned. Once you pick you city, I'd do your search.

In summary, good luck with your move and welcome back! In the past five years there's been some major advances in Downtown, University Circle, and the Westside Market area, so definitely check them all out!

I would look at Independence, honestly. Cheap taxes. Great community. Very nice schools and recreation center. Short commute to Brooklyn.
Seven Hills, maybe. Parma, even.
Maybe Brecksville?!? Not Solon, imo. Nothing wrong with Solon but there are many great suburbs much closer.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to be renting a home when we first move there, so I guess I'm going to have to do some research on those prices. I don't want to buy a house yet, just to make sure I get a new feel for the city.

Well welcome back home! I just returned back to Cleveland from South and Central Florida back in January. It certainly took being away to realize how great Cleveland is and what all it has to offer. I also found that to be true that no matter where you go, you're going to find that pessimistic attitude persists. I always had a grass is greener mentality, and realized I couldn't have been more wrong. I was one of the many people in Orlando who would complain about everything from the quality of life and how everything revolved around Disney. I even think at one point I complained about it being too sunny. It really does take being away to realize how great something really is. So with that, I am pretty sure Cleveland is glad to have you back.

Oh ya, and as far as finding a place. I would really look into Brecksville. It is very close to everything including I-77 to get you into the city, and from there any other major freeway networks to get you around Greater Cleveland. Plus, it is a very attractive town close to the national park.
