+1 for Algebra Tea House on Murray Hill. Blue Fig hookah bar on Euclid has a nice, chill atmosphere. Euclid Tavern is like 2 feet away too. LOVE University Circle/ Little Italy!

Loved driving down Euclid at night through East Cleveland, but most people would think that is a bad idea:-) Anyway, you can avoid East Cleveland at night completely and still live in nearby regions for years so do not let that dissuade you.

Lakewood is good, but I prefer University Circle any day. If you like beach volleyball, Lakewood is great as I think most of it is closer to Whiskey Island where I used to play for half the year.

Look at places on Murray Hill in Little Italy, and near here where you can get to from downtown without using the highway:

Check out the underground bar (there are two next to each other, and I mean the one with lots of foreign beer selections) in Coventry next to Mongolian BBQ.

You will like Algebra on Murray Hill a lot.

On Euclid, there is a Hooka Bar, relatively newer Indian restaurant and new Chipotle that I saw during my visit back several months ago.
The underground bar is B Side -- there's also the Grog shop right there as well. That's where the best hip young DJ's and bands come to in Cleveland. On Euclid, by that Chipotle, there is also an ABC Tavern opening. Really great bar food for cheap and a good beer selection.

Another special place out that way is Night Town, world class jazz, blues, etc. in a really good atmosphere while still being relatively affordable.

B side is the other one. This is the one I prefer:

La Cave du Vin - Cleveland, OH

B-side is cool, but La Cave du Vin takes the cake for me.

Just don't go to Paninis. Ever.

B Side/Grog Shop host music events, not supposed to be somewhere fancy or nice...

Both places are excellent in my opinion. Plenty of restaurants, affordable living, culture, public transport. Look at different places carefully and see what you enjoy most. Even if you do Lakewood its really not that far away.
