Hello,
We will be moving to Cleveland within the next 6 months and would like to get ideas on where to move. We are looking for Western or Southern Cleveland area that has a safe, charming, family friendly neighborhood with great schools. Also convenience to highways and shopping a plus. We checked out Lakewood and loved the style of homes there. Anyone know about the safety of this neighborhood or how good the schools are? Thanks so much for any help!!

Lakewood is safe, maybe a little less so along the border with Cleveland near 117th Street, but I would be comfortable walking down any street in Lakewood at night. There are great neighborhoods, a park along the lakefront, convenient shopping, and a good school system with all-new school building projects in progress. There is also a Metropark (Rocky River reservation), with a nature center and three public golf courses, that follows the river valley separating Lakewood and Rocky River all the way down past the airport to Strongsville.

Rocky River is also nice, has a downtown area with shopping along Detroit Rd, excellent schools, and nice tree-lined streets, but no direct lakefront access. Bay Village is further out, but has some affordable bungalows and cape cods, as well as Huntington beach, nature center, and Metropark, with excellent rated schools also. RR and BV have far fewer rental properties than Lakewood, so it may make the most sense to rent in Lakewood for a year and get the feel for the area before buying.

If you do end up looking on the east side, Mentor, Concord, Concord Twp. or Painseville Twp. are excellent areas. Good schools, very safe and only about 30 minutes out of Downtown. Extrememly SAFE! I can't emphasize that, great area!

I do like Berea, very charming. Strongsville is decent, North Royalton is also decent. Nice communities, good locations, great schools.

Just about everywhere in Western Cleveland is totally safe. Try and avoid East cleveland.
