I currently live in the Los Angeles area and have decided to head back to good ol' Cleveland, OH in about a month and a half. I was born and raised in Berea there, but have been gone for about 5 years now. I have a decent idea of the Cleveland area, but not the greatest. I'm finally ready to come back, but definitely want to stay away from the burbs. I am tired of the suburbs and would really like to try living in Cleveland proper.

I am a 24 year old white guy. I'd like to keep my budget in the $400-$500 price range. Just looking for a decent little studio. Obviously a 1 bedroom would be nicer, but not completely necessary.

What I'm looking for in a neighborhood are pretty much the normal things such as walkability, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. I like my neighborhoods diverse, but I know Cleveland in general isn't the most diverse of cities out there. I don't mind a more "rough" or "ghetto" area at all. I obviously would want to stay away from high crime areas or areas with gang activity (that is if gangs even exist in Cleveland). Strangely enough, I actually prefer my neighborhood to be gritty. In my opinion, it adds more character. I would also like to be close to a rapid station if possible.

So what do you think guys?

Thanks!

Welcome back!

I'd recommend looking at Detroit-Shoreway, Gordon Square for that price point and description.

That is exactly the area I was thinking about! I've been through there years ago. Never really had the chance to explore it though.

It does not. Gordon Square is a good idea.

Ok thank you. How about Cudell, Edgewater, or Clark-Fulton areas?

I would not recommend Cuddell or Clark-Fulton to anyone really.

Neighborhoods you should consider:
-Edgewater, Gordon Square, Ohio City, Tremont, Kamms, Little Italy, Larchmere/Shaker Square, North Collinwood, Coventry, Cedar-Lee.

My personal preferences in order (I have similar tastes as you, from what I can gather): Near West side (OC, Tremont, Gordon Square), Little Italy, Larchmere, Cedar-Lee, Coventry.

Shaker Square/Larchmere, Detroit-Shoreway, Ohio City, Tremont and University Circle/Little Italy all fit your desired neighborhood profile: trendy with some grit at the edges...
