Now that's funny. And they got their facts about Chicago's South and West Sides a bit wrong, too.

The chuckle there is most of the comments on that article are agreeing with the French.

Interested to know the justification in warning its citizens about some suburbs that aren't even really dangerous instead of mentioning a few east side city proper neighborhoods...

Are there any soap factories in these places?

I'm not surprised. Do you remember a few years ago when a French news source told the entire world how "depressed" Shaker Heights was? Turned out, they confused it with Cleveland's Kinsman neighborhood!

Perhaps this is a good time to point out that..........

The French Government report actually covered a large number of US cities, right across your country, in their safety and security warning. If you look around this CD website, you will see that is true.

The French aren't experts on America. These tips are given with a rule of thumb - East Cleveland and East suburbs = bad. Southside and Westside Chigao = Bad.

That's literally how they think.

Of course we in America know that this isn't right.

The problem is that they didn't mention the East Side, or East Cleveland, which are both much worse than CH, Euclid, or Lakewood. This really shows that their advisory was misinformed.

The New York Times may have reported the story, but a French news source originated it.

Here's a thread I started on the topic back in the day, although the link to the original story no longer appears to work:
