We visited last summer and had a great time. Two baseball games, The Lion King, Great Lakes Science Center, and stayed downtown at a fraction of the cost to do the same locally in DC (minus travel costs of course).

Meals out were quite affordable too. Our only "complaint" was that after the performance at Playhouse Square it was tough to find a restaurant that was open for dinner. We assumed something would be open in that area after a show. Actually, every place was closed and we ended up eating at the hotel restaurant.

It really depends on the day. On the weekends, they usually stay open late. If it was a weeknight, they'll usually gauge it by the flow of people. I have been able to get the "actors menu" at Cowell and Hubbard (right by the theaters) after 11pm on a weeknight.

I am pretty sure it was a Sunday, early evening.
