Elyria wouldn't really save you much time compared to Canton, so forget that. The other areas can work. Euclid does have great deals, bad schools. Unless you wanna use housing savings to do private school. Then I'd say go for it.

Mostly don't want a *bad* school. Average is just fine (though in Ohio open districts seem to make it possible to buy even with bad schools, so under the right circumstances we'd do that, we'd just prefer not to)

We have a budget of 150k and need 4 bedroom.

We've already done some looking and the areas that seem most likely for our budget and needs are Parma, Middleburg, North Olmstead, North Ridgeville, Elyria. Euclid is also tempting because we can get some real bang for our buck there and it doesn't seem too bad (though I don't know much about it) Curious what the general consesus on those areas are, or if there are others you'd suggest or not suggest. I think I've heard Euclid and Elyria are going "down hill", but I'm not really sure what that means. Crime is rising? Housing prices are falling so we may lose $ buying there?

Thanks
Check elementary schools at greatschools.org.

Given different social economic conditions between Euclid neighborhoods, I would expect northern Euclid elementary schools to have higher ratings. Other alternatives on the east side would include Mayfield, Highland Hts., Eastlake, Wickliffe, Willoughby or even Mentor. Money magazine in recent years have included Mentor and Highland Hts. on their best 50 U.S. small city lists. Mentor offers very robust recreational options.

Perhaps consider neighborhoods served by Cleveland's RTA rapid lines, whether bus or rail. West Park/Kamm's Corner reportedly has a good elementary school. This area is convenient for the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks and for the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Check out Halloran Park and the skating rink there.

Halloran Park | City of Cleveland

Check out Lakewood and Shaker Heights (houses close to the Green Line). If interested in using RTA to commute to the Jack's Casino, check commutes using Google Transit at the RTA home page.

Check out municipal income tax rates and residential tax credits for any suburb under consideration.

This thread may be informative, especially post 3.

Actually Elyria is a 30-40 minute drive. Canton is an hour. We'd prefer to be under 30 minutes so mostly looking at east Elyria. We actually put in an offer for a house in Elyria last week and ended up losing it to another offer but that one was a 29 minute drive. Another we looked at was closer to 40. We'd prefer south of Cleveland to stay closer to Canton (we have rentals there) but in all were looking for the right house so we'll make some sacrifices for that.

I've never used greaterschools but I've looked a lot of school digger. I don't remember if we've checked out Mentor or not. I'll look into some of those suggestions, thanks.

How are the IT jobs in the Cleveland area compared to that in Columbus? We are looking to get the heck out of Phoenix.

Default Relocating to Akron/Cleveland area

It looks like I may be taking a job in NW Akron(Copley area). Im trying to find a good area that may be between Akron and Cleveland. A little bit about me: Im 29 and single and will be renting. Budget is $600-$700 a month. Id like a safe area that has a decent number of restaurants, bars and shopping options. I like to run so an area with good parks or walk-able neighborhoods would be preferred. As far as commute goes I would like to keep it under 25 min with easy access to I-71 or I-77. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

The city of Brecksville or Independence are great places to live and provide immediate access to I-77. Maybe a 15 minute drive to Copley and 20 minutes to Downtown Cleveland with no traffic. Brecksville offers a great Metropark with hike and bike trails, but from either community you have great access to just about everything. You won't find nicer places to live anywhere.

Live as close to your work place as possible. The roads are very bad.
