Hi there…

I became delinquent on my property taxes in Cuyahoga County due to medical reasons. In August, i contacted the tax department and set up a payment plan. I waited for the documentation to arrive in the mail. Upon receipt, i wrote a check for the first payment, made a copy of drivers license, etc and sent it off.

Several weeks later, i called to see if the check had been received. I was told that it hadn't. About a week later. September 29 to be exact, i received another letter from them stating that the amount was wrong..(now $100 more) and it had to be certified funds and was due by September 15th!! On the original letter, the certified funds box was not checked off.

On October 10, I sent certified funds with the new amount due.

On October 17, I called to see if that had been received. The women told me that there had been a lien sale and the lien was sold.

Today, i received a letter stating that Wood Cove iii owns the lien and to contact them for information. There is no payment plan from the county anymore.

I have documentation of everything.

Who would I contact at the Treasurer/Auditor department to discuss this? I want to send everything by mail. Talking to them by phone is a waste of time.

Thank You in advance..

incidentally, am I not required to receive ANYTHING stating that there was going to be a lien sale of the property??

Also, i do not live in Cleveland, i am out of state.

Doing everything by mail seems so 1965 or whatever. But you're out of state so you can't do it in person, unfortunately. I'd still call, but I'd guess you're most likely SOL. Regardless of the events leading up to it (mostly your fault, IMO - you waited several weeks for a check to clear?), I doubt they can unsell the lien.

I'd just start dealing with Wood Cove III TBH and see what you can work out.

Edit: IANAL
