Looking for a nice eastern suburb, probably no further east than painesville to get some land. The most important things are to not be too terribly far from the lake, and also to be within a short drive to suburban ammeneties (mainly nice grocery stores that have good organic options)

Kirtland, Kirtland Hills, possibly Waite Hill, Willoughby Hills, Concord Township probably are possibilities. Check with a realtor or real estate listings. Five acres will not be cheap in these areas. Leroy Township would be cheaper, but that's southeast of Painesville. Chester and Chardon Townships would be possibilities further south in Geauga County.

Geauga County was my first thought. Still close enough to a city like Chagrin Falls that will have plenty of high end grocery options and also close to Amish Farms and markets. Something like Chagrin Falls (the West Geauga School District part), Chardon, Burton, Russell, South Russell, Auburn, Hiram, Newberry, Chesterland, Bainbridge and Novelty as just about all within that Painesville eastern limit.

How much money you have to spend will determine where you should look. Some very nice properties that fit your description for $400K+ in the Chagrin Falls and Bainbridge areas which would be the closest to shopping choices. Very few 5+ acre homes for under $300K in all of Geauga county.

The OP wants to be close to the lake. Obviously, Lake County locations are 10-30 minutes closer than Geauga County locations, depending on the Geauga location.

If budget wasn't an issue, I would concentrate on Kirtland Hills and Waite Hill, if there are properties that large in Waite Hill. Kirtland would be third on my list, but it likely would be closer than the other two to the OP's marina, if that is the objective of living close to the lake.

Are you saying that 5-acre properties with nice houses are available in the Chagrin Falls and Bainbridge areas? That surprises me a little.
