Question: Which beach (if any) happens to have a particularly good sandbar? Like an area a little bit deeper that is good for just floating, and while it may have rocks, not as many. Sort of just a place to ride the gentle Lake Erie waves for a little bit.

I would not swim in that green toxic algae and too much bacteria for me. Those ain't beaches in my book either, when in doubt stay out...

Rented a kayak in the Flats last summer and kayaked from Shooters downriver to the lake entrance and around to Whiskey Island, as I've always wanted to take a small craft out there. I enjoyed it a lot, but the whole time I was thinking, "how much denial am I in about the water quality here to be pretending I'm truly getting back to nature?" Quite a bit of floating trash, and I kept thinking about the steel mills (and their history) downstream. And what was certainly in the river bottom below me.
I kept thinking about the old '70's commercial with the crying Indian canoeing through the water pollution. That was me that day. Felt the same.
I love the old lake and the river, but sometimes we forget, in our latest version of the Cleveland "comeback," that we're in a pretty toxic location. Especially when you travel and see truly pristine waterways elsewhere.

I'm leaning more and more that way these days. Sadly.
