Yeah, I don't know about that. Even the one with the "castle law", where the guy killed the guy in his yard, that was ruled self defense. I don't think these things go under homicide, at least not under the fbi's numbers, maybe this is why there seem to be discrepancies between FBI and other numbers.

There is non-negligent homicide, murder, which is the intentional taking of the life of another, and negligent homicides like the two killed by cars listed above. The drivers weren't trying to kill those people, it was incidental. I guess you could say a homicide is a death that isn't by natural causes except you could fall off a cliff and die and it wouldn't be a homicide. Police statistics usually make a distinction of the two.

Thats a good point.

Think of it this way, if a person sees someone they had a problem with walking down the street, and (for whatever reason) they decide to run them over and use the car to kill them, is that not a homicide that should be counted? Just instead of shooting them, they decided to use a car, its really the same thing. Im still not they sure if they count those or not. They would probably have to go through a process and see if it was intentional, either way the intentional ones are probably under-reported.

A car is a lethal weapon and in the case you mention it would be murder. They usually determine this fairly easy.
