I'm curious, given your warped view of Cleveland weather, would you say the same thing about the likes of Boston, Chicago, and Minneapolis?

To new comers to Cleveland, specially those who have children, if you do not make at least 100k individually or as a couple, this city is not worth it, in the long term. However, if it is a temporary relocation with something better to look forward to; you gotta do what you gotta do.

To new comers to Cleveland, who make less than 100k as a couple and have no family connections to Northeast Ohio; we live in a beautiful country, we live in a large country, go find some place else to call home.
Getting back to this point of yours dear O.P., I think you've mistaken Cleveland for Boston or New York. I'd like to see you live in either of these two East Coast cities with children for a combined salary of <100K. Try doing the same on the West Coast in places like the Bay Area, Seattle, or LA and then see if you like it.

Oh, I don't know that I am the exception. I have met other transplants who are quite happy here and they are not from Antarctica.

I am curious though, if you don't mind my asking, where are you getting your comparisons? Have you lived in any other city besides Cleveland? Have you done any actual research as to where you would rather be? What city would you find best suited to you where you would be most happy since it's obviously not the one you are in?

Minervah are you certain they weren't from Antarctica? If not, perhaps they were from Arctic Ocean coastal areas.

Lol!!

I've shared my story so many times. We chose to live here twice over more popular locations. It's exactly what was said earlier about the day to day living that drew us back.

There are probably transplants to Mogadishu, Somalia who are quite happy too and they are not from Antartica.

It's interesting, and frustrating, how the internet provides a voice for malcontents either with a distorted sense of reality, or a willingness to engage in unfair and illogical defamation in order to elicit reactions.

My goal going forward is to ignore such posters or to treat them with a curt lack of respect to which, IMO, they are entitled.

Minervah, did you ever live Antarctica or Somalia before relocating to Cleveland Hts.? If not, I guess you're the lone exception, or perhaps Portland and Chicago are similarly lowly places that would make a transplant from those pits happy to escape to even Cleveland!

Minervah and WRNative (and some of the rest of the Cleveland posters), I would almost certainly enjoy meeting you in the non-virtual world.

We have started our pre-retirement downsizing--have our old house under contract and are in a sweet flat with a private garden in downtown Marietta, walking distance to everything. We like our spot, but the cultural opportunities in the Cleveland area have us still considering it as a retirement destination.

Have you lived in Antarctica or Somalia? If not, have you really thought carefully about that idea?
