The Ballot will read: Issue 3

Grants a MONOPOLY for the commercial production and sale of marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes

Proposed Constitutional Amendment

Proposed by Initiative Petition

To add Section 12 of Article XV of the Constitution of the State of Ohio.

It will go on to say:

Endow EXCLUSIVE rights for commercial marijuana growth, cultivation, and extraction to SELF-DESIGNATED landowners who own ten PREDETERMINED parcels of land in Butler, Clermont, Franklin, Hamilton, Licking, Lorain, Lucas, Delaware, Stark, and Summit Counties. One additional location may be allowed for in four years only if existing facilities cannot meet consumer demand.

These self-designated landowners are also conveniently the biggest funders of ResponsibleOhios' campaign. This would a textbook monopoly and I'm glad the state of Ohio agrees

The self-designated landowners are independent from each other? And competing with each other? Lol, that's not a monopoly.

I suspect limiting the legal growers to 10 is to make oversight/regulation more manageable.

Default Addiction experts oppose Issue 3

This may kill this proposal, especially if similar opposition emerges in other cities.

<<
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Doctors from Cleveland's largest medical institutions stood together Monday to oppose Issue 3, the proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would legalize the recreational and medical use of marijuana.

Addiction specialists from the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals of Cleveland and MetroHealth Systems attacked the proposal, arguing that marijuana use has harmful effects on the brain, especially those of teens and young adults....

Kotz also pointed to studies that show teens are more likely to abuse marijuana when it's available as an edible product, such as brownies. If voters approve Issue 3, special retailers would be allowed to sell marijuana is many forms, including as cookies and brownies.

Dr. Ewald Horwath of The MetroHealth System said legalization could lead to an increase in the number of psychotic episodes hospitals treat and contribute to an increase in ER trauma visits, including those resulting from motor vehicle accidents.

Horwath summed up MetroHealth Systems' opposition by saying legalization is not the way to achieve a healthier Ohio.

Many persons won't vote to legalize marijuana in the face of opposition from leading medical institutions.

No one ever said they were independent and competing... Matter of fact there wouldn't even be a competition.

Not saying 10 grow sites is a bad thing, I'm saying its a bad thing that they're already owned.

You'd think they would at least be able to make up something more logical relative to alcohol and tobacco (yeah, they're against it, but I doubt they want to make either illegal).
