The Indians hit FOUR HRs off Verlander in the fifth inning. That was the first time in Tigers history that a Tigers pitcher gave up four HRs to an opposing team in a single inning.

See the historic feat here:

This Indians team may be very special.... nine straight win against the Tigers, and Josh Tomlin has bested Verlander three times this season. Who would have ever guessed that would be possible?

"Powerful" Tribe?

Next up tomorrow night -- the Atlanta Braves, 7-3 in their last 10 games. Another test on the road.

Default Gomes, Brantley key to further Tribe improvement?

Here's why the Indians are one of MLB's top contenders, and how they might get better - CBSSports.com

It's not even All Star break yet guys. The Indians have been notorious for crumbling the 2nd half of the season. Let's hope they continue pounding those bats and maintain that 1st place position though

Meh, they usually have awful early seasons. And a couple times they've actually had surges in the late months. The difference is consistency. This team hasn't ever really sunk too low, even during losing streaks. They've lost 3 games in a row twice this year. That's really not bad. We've had winning streaks of 5, 6, and the current 9(which I believe is the longest streak of any team this year?).

Season is almost halfway done and they're nearly a .600 team. That's very encouraging.

The Indians are amazing now with, perhaps, MLB's best starting rotation and a group of surprisingly potent bats (Mike Napoli has really anchored the middle of the order-- he was quietly a major signing by the Indians and guys like Lindor, Ramirez and Kipnis and even Naquin are hitting the ball well). If long believed the best thing the Indians did a few years ago was hiring a championship-winning manager (that rarely happens in Cleveland where our teams seem perpetually in the on-the-job-training mode). Terry Francona has a knack for getting the best out of players; he never calls them out in the media but quietly encourages them and, then, if they don't work out after all the encouragement, they're gone.

With the Cavs finally breaking the 52-year drop, there's a whole different attitude toward the Indians. While the pressure to win it all now is off (at least among the fans) there's now a sense of optimism. The Cleveland "woe is me/when is the other shoe going to drop" attitude has been replaced with a new can-do, Cleveland, we are winners mentality, and I love it.

Default Fulfilling destiny?

Many experts have believed in the potential of this Tribe team for the last couple years, given the exceptional quality of its starting rotation. If the starters stay healthy, and if the surprising offense stays sharp, the 1916 Tribe perhaps has a rendezvous with destiny.

Pluto is a believer:

Lindor, Naquin, Ramirez, and Chisenhall have been the pleasant surprises. Napoli clearly has benefited from his sleep apnea surgery. Rajai Davis is proving that he is a dedicated athlete of exceptional ability in the twilight of his career.

This Tribe team has the best pitching since the World Series glory years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The defense is very solid and the offense proving to have an effective mix of both hungry veterans and hungry youth.

Brantley, Chris Perez, a reinvigorated Yan Gomes, and perhaps even Giovanny Urshela, Cody Anderson, or Mike Clevinger may yet make contributions.

The 1916 Indians finished with a record of 77-77.

Seriously though...I have not missed many games (listening) in the past 30-35 years or so and I am almost as excited about the team right now as any time in the past. Something good is happening and it just has that feeling that it's going to continue to snowball (in a good snowball way).
