I used to live in Cleveland, and I was an Uber driver. As a driver, I always hated getting taken out to the east side by a rider, because it was a pain in the ass to get back.

However, what I noticed is that if I ever had to go to the bathroom there, nothing had a restroom. Every gas station did not. What's really bizarre, is that somewhere on Kinsman there is a place with a Mr. Hero, and a gas station across the street that has 2 restaurants in it, and neither of them has a restroom. Outside is a dumpster where someone spray painted "Don't ****" on it. I would have to drive back downtown and use the porta john at the BP outside of Progressive Field, or drive back to the West side. If it was dark, I would just use a dark area of the street. Is it that difficult just to put a bathroom in a building? Is the entire east side of the city of Cleveland that poor that they cannot afford it?

There has to be some reason to it though.

Just reaching here... but might it have something to do with the crime rate in those areas?

First there were food deserts... now there are restroom deserts, apparently.

Basically, yeah. Do you honestly believe they don't have restrooms?

Public restrooms or anything else public attracts lowlifes, and not just homeless who may be looking for a quick wash up. There’s a CVS on Euclid halfway between downtown and University Circle...maybe they have one?

Exactly. Virtually all businesses physically have a restroom, or else where would the employees go? Some potential reasons for not having them public:
  • Drug use
  • Prostitution
  • Homeless camping out
  • Security (can't have people walking behind register or through the storeroom)
  • Money (less use = less cleaning)

Aren't there any McDonald's in this area with public rest rooms? I've never seen a McDonald's without a public rest room.

The one at 1540 East 55th St. is open 24 hours, but the restaurant closes overnight at 10 p.m. with just drive through available.

There are several other McDonald's on the east side, including one in Glenville and one in East Cleveland.

Also there is a McDonald's at Carnegie and E. 32. Someone was murdered there over the summer though.

Honestly, none of these east side city proper McDonald's are anywhere I'd want to be near after about 8 pm. The University Heights one on Warrensville is ok though.
