Just seeing the Brig Niagara is extremely worthwhile. It provides a great perspective on the Battle of Lake Erie, arguably the most important naval victory in American history as it preserved the Northwest Territory for the United States. One of Britain's goals in the War of 1812 was to turn the Northwest Territory into an Indian territory, as a bulwark hindering the western expansion of the U.S.

A century ago, the residents of Ohio and Michigan more appreciated the significance of the Battle of Lake Erie, and erected the massive Perry Monument on South Bass Island to commemorate the victory.

Cleveland has its own Perry Monument in Fort Huntington Park next to the Cuyahoga County Court House and across the street from the Justice Center. It would be an easy stop for those on the way to see the tall ships, likely at the North Coast Harbor. Fort Huntington was erected to protect the village of Cleveland from British attack during the War of 1812.

Here's the event's website, which hopefully will add more information in the future. According to this website, tickets sales don't begin until Jan. 17.

Here are other websites with information about the event.

Apparently, this event originally was scheduled for Fairport Harbor but moved to Cleveland.
