^It's all about $$$. CSU owns this land. The price would be double if they tried to take a downtown parking lot unfortunately.

Dang, even I struggle with keeping up with these new announcements that seemingly come out every week for the past 6 months.

Chalk up another historic renovation and increase in occupancy rate for Downtown Cleveland:

Calfee building on history
Calfee's nearly 300 employees are slated to move into the renovated space at the end of this month, occupying 100% of the 115,000-square-foot building, which will carry the law firm's name.

Located at East Sixth Street and Rockwell Avenue, the historic seven-floor structure that originally was constructed for the East Ohio Gas Co. had in recent years fallen into a state of disrepair and neglect. What once served as East Ohio's showroom for gas appliances was even being used as a parking garage.

For Mr. Ballard, a native of Northeast Ohio, the project is nothing short of a labor of love.

“We're really part of the revitalization of downtown Cleveland,” he said. “Look at all the things that are happening a block from where we're standing.”

What a frikin steal of a deal. I'm thinking these people will make some welcome additions and improvements as well:

UPDATED: Historic Arcade in downtown Cleveland sold to Canadian buyer at auction for $7.7 million

The Arcade marks Skyline's first acquisition in the United States, company president Gil Blutrich said during a phone interview. The company has been watching the U.S. real estate market for more than four years, he added.

"We're very excited for all the investments that the city and the private sector are investing in downtown Cleveland, between the new casino, the new [convention center] and talk about improving the infrastructure for transportation," Blutrich said. "Overall, we feel that it's the right time for us, and this is exactly what we like to do."

Even though the Arcade has went through a major renovation not too long ago, it should be interesting to see what this group has planned with it.

Exciting news.

CSU needs a hotel...and a d@mn cool one at that...on campus:

Cleveland State University, which owns the 43-room Tudor mansion, is seeking proposals from developers who want to sublease it, spend about $10 million to redevelop the property and operate it as a hotel.

Interest in hotel rooms is high because of proposed and ongoing projects in Cleveland, including a new casino and medical mart, Boyle said. And a developer should be able to secure historic tax credits, new-market tax credits and other state or federal funding for historic properties.
