Did the new coffee shop open where Dewey's was located? Thought I saw a "coming soon" on my last visit.

TheProf, good call on listing Shaker Towne Center and the surrounding Chagrin & Lee area. It really is quite walkable in a functional sense. It does fall short in the "vibe", being divided by busy roads and the large parking lot at the strip mall -- though the roads are only 2-4 lanes and the parking lot is pretty narrow for a strip mall, so it's not as bad as it could be.

As you noted, the good transit service pushes it over the edge in terms of car free living.

Thanks.

It sure would be nice if, in the future, Shaker planners could correct their mistake kind of how it was done at University Circle, Uptown... That is, keep but upgrade the set-back store fronts, including Heinen's supermarket. But out front of this, build a mixed-use (apts-over-retail) stretch of buildings directly fronting Chagrin Blvd at the curb. Then, in between the old and new buildings, eliminate the surface parking in favor of an outdoor promenade with hanging lights, benches and outdoor dining patios (for the planned restaurants in the newer buildings)...

Obviously STC doesn't match up with Uptown exactly, but UCI/Uptown did such a magnificent job of turning a totally lifeless, small strip shopping center surrounded by acres of ugly surface parking (both asphalt and even gravel), into a beautiful, vibrant mixed-use, people-friendly urban oasis, that's transit-friendly, too -- and thrown in the attractive MOCA at the Euclid-Mayfield corner for good measure. Uptown is, perhaps, the greatest such upgrade in Greater Cleveland I've witnessed in my lifetime. STC was never that bad (as UC pre-Uptown) but it has a long way to go if it wants to achieve Uptown as it is, today.

Been that way as long as I can remember. (I first started going there in the '80s.) One has to be careful not to wander too far west or south.

I LOVE Ohio City. One of the best urban walkable neighborhoods in the US. Everything a person could need and a 3 min car drive from downtown.

... or short train, bus, bike or scooter ride, too; not to mention a brisk, interesting stroll either over one of the bridges, or through the Flats on a nice day.
