@JUS2020

Here is my original statement.

"I would also apply for a permit to carry a handgun if you are going to live downtown. Aside from the bright lights and glitter is a dark side of downtown that results in muggings and robberies almost daily. Downtown, because there is action, and people who go out to find action carry money, is a cess pool of homeless and violent punks who DO have guns, and they are waiting for YOU to make a turn down a side street to get to your car, or walk to your building entrance if you live there. I would avoid downtown Cleveland at all costs. NO show at The House of Blues is worth my life."

"Action" means that if you go downtown to do anything, have dinner, drink at a bar, go to a Cavs game, gamble at the casino, you will have to have money in your pocket to do those things. I know that. You know that. The thugs also know that. They aren't robbing each other. They are robbing people they know have money.

@teacherdad

Homeless don't bother you? Have you had one stick a gun in your mouth yet?

@bjimmy24

No matter if the majority of incidents happen at the strip clubs or not, they DO happen. I lived one year at Crittenden Courts. That was before the hoodrats destroyed the East Bank and we watched it torn down. That was the days of Sammy's, The Watermark, D'Poo's (which turned into Hooters), Rumrunners, The Beach Club, The Odeon, Fagans.... I PLAYED those bars with my bands for years. I know the Flats and that city better than most at my age (For perspective, I saw The Beatles live at Public Hall) and I have watched it go from okay in my youth, when I could walk the 3 miles to the stadium to watch a baseball game, to now when you take your life in your hands just going there. But until it happens to you, keep taking those midnight walks.

So I would not recommend doing that. As a normal person? You're fine.

I take reports of attacks that appear random with a grain of salt. For example, the guy attacked in Ohio City, was he drunk? On drugs? Did he say something to the kids that set them off? Maybe they did actually know each other? Was he flashing his money? I do find it interesting that these people who get robbed tend to always have hundreds of dollars on them. Maybe it's just me, but I never have hundreds of dollars on me. Somehow people are seeing the cash. These details do not always emerge. Though I agree in principle that I still hear too many crime stories from the good areas.

That advice was given several decades ago. I still use that advice on occasion.

Today, with all of the concealed weapon licenses now issued, that tactic likely is even more effective. A woman walking with her hand in a purse today would especially be a high risk target for an astute assailant looking for a victim.

Being a male and relatively large, that probably is somewhat a deterrent, but as I get older, I do feel more vulnerable when alone, especially in relatively empty parking lots at night, such as even at a 24/7 suburban supermarket. I try to park away from other cars in an empty parking lot, and become very vigilant if a car is parked next to me as I exit the store.

Anyway, parking garages would be the biggest worry, especially for women, in most areas of downtown Cleveland IMO. It's very good advice to check out security in any parking garage used and to adapt behavior accordingly.

Of course, apartment security is very important and should be considered (24/7 lobby security?). I'm surprised how many high-end apartments allow delivery persons (especially food delivery persons) to enter otherwise secure residential areas; it seems to be the norm.

Always lock car doors, even when filling up with gas.

Nothing beats avoiding prospectively dangerous situations.

Life in America.
AND exercise your 2nd Amendment rights before the liberals take them away from you. They are so stupid they don't understand that their laws don't affect the criminals who buy guns in parking lots, only people who go though the proper channels.

Dude, you are posting ONE crime and calling it a **** hole? LOL! You do not even live DT. I really think you should focus on where you live, but I also think you enjoy (get a kick) out of seeing the reaction to your posts. My cousin has worked DT for years (female) on Euclid and 4th. She parks sometimes blocks from her office. She loves to go there on the weekends. She's a CLE native. She doesn't carry a gun, nor do I. This guy, ONE thing on ONE day in a year, was seen cashing it in. Duh. He was targeted. Just have to have some common sense. The way I dress at times, I am sure people have changed directions when I was coming.

How many hundreds of thousands, if not millions of persons, have gone to shows at the House of Blues? How many have been mugged, let alone killed? I've seen lines at the HOB full of unaccompanied teenagers, with no police presence.

Just crazy talk. Eventually, something will happen and we'll never hear the end of it from you and other Cleveland bashers.

BTW, what do you do these days that is perfectly safe???

Total baloney. You don't need cash in your pocket to do any of these things. Many persons these days rely on credit/debit cards, Apple Pay or other digital payment systems. They carry very little cash. Only 31 percent of U.S. consumer transactions are in cash.

Guns are expensive and easily stolen. I doubt if many homeless persons carry guns. Can you document any instances of armed robbery with a gun committed by a homeless person in downtown Cleveland???

Again, how many persons have died in an act of violent intent while walking to or from a baseball game at Progressive or Jacobs Fields? Can you document a single instance?

BTW, the OP likely has lived through a decade of more of IRA terrorism and certainly Islamic terrorist attacks in the U.K. Cleveland may seem much less terrifying by comparison. The 9/11 terrorists commandeered a jet right over Cleveland. They didn't even think about attacking downtown Cleveland targets.

BTW: The guy that was robbed was gambling WITH the suspect. They knew each other. It was not some random guy that was mugged.

Eddie reminds me of those guys over on the Baltimore site. Sadly, these people come out of the woodwork, with the same message every post after post after post. Unbelievable one track message. One has to wonder what they're doing with all that unused grey matter.

Poor OP has had their thread high-jacked. Tried to ignore this embarrassing chatter, but now it’s time to dust off some real numbers.

100,000 people work downtown daily
20,000 people live downtown daily
20,000-60,000 people visit downtown daily (estimate of course, skewed with especially home games)

Let’s just be conservative and say 160,000 people are downtown every day.

If there is one robbery a week, then someone has a 0.00009 % chance of being robbed. Round up another magnitude if there’s other variables I’m not including in the calculation.

I personally don’t know anyone who’s had an altercations downtown.

I also forgot, several of the floors in Terminal Tower are being converted to residential.

https://www.terminaltower.com/

You may want to contact them to see if they offer any short term leases. These units would all be brand new as well.
