Yes I saw the reports but there is no corroborating evidence of that. That sounds like PD passing off blame to a degree. Similar claims made all over the country, but these protests are everywhere. I find it much easier to believe that we just have violent people and mischief makers in Cuyahoga County.

FWIW I saw the first 1-2 hours or so of the the protest and people were throwing water bottles and eventually lobbing massive bricks into the Justice Center. This was during the "official" part. It would not surprise me if those same people were smashing up Euclid later. While things certainly escalated later, I would dispute any claims that the early protest was totally civil and only got worse after a few hours. I remember thinking this couldn't be good from the get go.

It certainly seemed like people knew where they were going, at least to me. Though I did not leave my apartment after I witnessed Heinen's and Geigers being looted and destroyed.

The scariest thing to me was the fires started in businesses below apartment buildings. Reserve Square shops got all looted and a fire was in Dollar General.

Do you mean downtown... or Cleveland in general?

Where would you go? It's going on in other cities as well, even third-tier cities like Nashville and Grand Rapids, from reports I've been getting.

I've never been to Cleveland but have heard so many good things about it. So sorry this has happened.

Downtown was anarchy. I don't know where I'd go. Middle of nowhere probably. But for now I am still downtown under martial law. Which is actually preferable to last night. Sad, sad state of affairs.

What media source can be trusted today? I hear otherwise, and all those arrested in MN had MN addresses.

I really hope we don't give up on our cities again like we did in the 70s. I live in an downtown adjacent neighborhood (of another city) and believe me this has made me more nervous about purchasing something for long term. But I really do hope we can find a way to continue revitalizing our cities, while addressing legitimate social issues around racism, police brutality and stopping violence/looting.

I suspect some type of anarchists are behind this to at least some degree. But I would bet they are local (at least from northeast Ohio).

I know this is nerve wracking for all of you city dwellers, but please don't despair! I lived in downtown Seattle during the WTO riots. Yes, it was scary, violent and destructive but the city was not destroyed forever by it...not by a long shot! I, for one, truly hope the protests accomplish something this time. The smashers and looters only detract from the message, but I hope the message is finally heard. Please don't feel like you need to leave your city over this! I saw lots of good people on the news yesterday cleaning up after the violence. I saw police marching and kneeling. This may be a scary time, but may eventually result in something good. We may be feeling the birth pangs of a better future. Hang in there and work toward the good!
