Does anybody have any details on what it's like going through the purchase process of buying a lot next-door?
For instance, me and my partner just purchased a house in Cleveland and the lot next-door is likely going to go to Sheriff Sale requiring the outstanding "funds/bill" to be paid-off, if not -- I've been advised that the County Land Bank will likely request ownership of the demolished lot.
I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to purchase the outstanding "bill" or await to deal with the Land Bank for ownership of the lot.
Has someone gone through a similar process in acquiring a vacant lot next-door to their property? PLEASE SHARE!!!

What neighborhood? In a large parts of the city (most of the near west side, for example) the side lot acquisition program has been suspended indefinitely because housing demand means the lots are more suited to new infill development.

We live in the Detroit-Shoreway area and may I ask for verification or a link of indefinite suspension of the side-lot programs in this/these area or from the Cuyahoga County Land Bank, etc? (just so I can do some more digging -- I really appreciate the information!)

I don't believe it's a written policy anywhere, just generally the practice that has been in place for a few years. The program exists, but I know, per experiences of my neighbors, that side lot acquisition is generally discouraged or rejected in Detroit-Shoreway. You can reach out to your neighborhood planner for additional information.
