I’ve been in Cleveland for 3.5 years now and all of it spent in Cleveland Heights. I recently switched jobs and now work on the west side. With this and several other factors, I’ve decided to look into the Lakewood area for apartments since my current lease is almost up. Those familiar with both cities, are there any areas in Lakewood that are similar to the cedar Fairmount area in CH? Specifically style of buildings and walkable neighborhoods that include grocery and restaurants. I really like the style of apartments in that area and would like to find something similar in Lakewood if possible. Thanks in advance!

The architecture is a bit different, but Lakewood is also very walkable. The two areas are somewhat similar. Pretty much the whole of Detroit and, to a slightly lesser extent, Madison from W. 117th to the west is loaded with shops, bars and restaurants. My preference is the area west of Bunts and into Rocky River. There are a bunch of grocery and convenience stores as well. I do know that there are dozens of apartment buildings in the general area also, but I've never stayed in any of them so I can't speak to their level of appeal. Like everywhere, they'll vary in cost and quality. I'd look along Clifton and Detroit for the nicer places.

I would recommend the northeast corner of Lakewood -- the Gold Coast and surroundings. Specifically, Clifton, Lake, and Edgewater between West 117th and Cove. You'll find the style of apartment buildings you want there, and the area around Clifton/117th is easily walkable and has grocery shopping, pharmacy, restaurants, and a few shops.

Scattered here and there along Lake Avenue east of West 117th to Edgewater Park are similar very nice buildings if you don't mind living in Cleveland proper. Also some on Clifton on the Cleveland side. That part of Cleveland is called Edgewater and is very similar to Lakewood.
