Hey all,

Brand new to the forum & have a few questions regarding the Cleveland area.

If all goes well with contract negotiations, I'll be moving to Cleveland in September & have a few questions. Currently, I'm living in Charleston, SC close to downtown (rent is outrageous).

I'm mid-20's, single & a mix of professional/urban/artsy. I really dislike long commutes & will be working in Westlake right off of I-90...what areas would you recommend for housing? I love walking to pick up the daily groceries, for an after-work drink, to a good restaurant, etc. A place with two bedrooms/one bedroom + office is what I'm aiming for.

Can anyone in a similar situation give me an approximate budget? Rent, utilities, food, etc? I like to live comfortably when I'm not working hard. Going out & eating out twice a week.

That's all I can think of at the moment, thanks in advance!

Would you want more of an urban or suburban neighborhood?

From what you said Lakewood seems like a good place for you. Possibly Rocky River too. Both of those places are no more than a 10 minute drive. Or if you dont mind more suburban living than you could live right in Westlake. Im not entirely sure about that area and how much apartments and things go for. You can check on some websites about apartment rentals and it should say on there. I would be guessing but maybe around $800/month for what you are talking about. That would be for the apartment. I think overall the Cleveland area is a good amount cheaper for the cost of living than Charleston, SC. Im going to have to check on a few of these.

Thanks for the reply. Lakewood/Rocky River was the recommendation of a family friend in Cleveland. I'd definitely go for a more urban feel.

I saw some neat places in the Warehouse district, but I get the feeling it's a bit too cliche.
