I am not too happy with the trades that the Indians have made. Hopefully this will turn out good for them, and they can get some good trades in return. But I really don't know.

They're becoming the Pittsburgh Pirates of the American League....how Shapiro trades Cliff Lee - a cy-young winner - as well as a quality big-league 4th outfielder in Francisco, and not only not get another big-league in return, but not get the Phillies top prospect is unacceptable. I will be shocked if they have a winning season before 2015 at this rate, and even if some of the players in their farm system turn out to be all-stars, the owner has proved time and time again, he won't pay them. Big problem I have w/baseball - along w/the roids issues - is that there is no salary cap, and the Yankees, Red Sox, LA's of the league will continue to win while the Pittsburghs, Clevelands, Kansas Cities, etc. of the league will continue to struggle. Sure they may catch lightning in a bottle every once in a while like the Indians did in 2007, but look how fast that has unraveled, not even 2 years later they show no resemblance of that team outside of Grady and a handful of others.

I think immediately "needing" to cut salary cost drove those Lee and Martinez deals. Obviousl, we always had the option of dealing them in the offseason or next year, but the cost appears to be a major factor in doing the deals now.

I don't like the Philly deal at all, the Indians got a total of one "plus" prospect (Knapp). Martinez at least gave us a decent return.
