I have thoughts about moving out this summer. What do I need to know? I plan on getting an apartment in Cleveland with a friend.

Any advice on someone moving out for the first time?

Any other bills I am forgetting?
Rent -$150-$250 (we may get a 3rd room mate)
Food - $50-$75 a week
Phone $35 a month
Gas for car ($25-$35) a week - Plan to commute to community college
What could I expect to pay for electric and water?

How many hours a week should I plan on working with a minimum wage job of $7.30 an hour? How many hours a week would you recommend working and whats the least amount I could?

You need to get Renter's Insurance to protect your belongings. Your landord is not responsible for any damages caused by fire, flood, etc, so make sure you get some. Contact your car insurance company to get rates for coverage. It should be fairly cheap, and you should get a discount since your car is already with them.

You may not have to pay for water/sewer. Every apartment I lived in (in Cleveland) had that included as part of the rent. It's been too long since I lived there to give you an estimate on gas/electric rates.

Other bills you didn't mention:
Car insurance premium
TV/Cable/Internet service
Cell phone
Parking space (some landlords charge extra for a designated space)
college tuition

Good luck!

well minimum wage just went up to 7.85/hr thats good news huh. it depends on what type of job you have for minimum working hours. most employers have a min of 20 hours a week for part time employees

Im in small town in the middle of nowhere ohio about 3 hours away. I plan on taking out a loan for school. Yea so I figure working 25-30 hours a week then.

Car insurance premium : Buying minimum coverage insurance
TV/Cable/Internet service: I have a ton of DVDS and my friend has a crappy TV so probably wont even buy cable. Not sure what we are doing for computer/internet
Cell phone:$35 a month. Wont have house phone
Parking space (some landlords charge extra for a designated space)
college tuition: taking out a loan

i would suggest South Euclid, University Heights, or Cleveland Heights. There's a lot of bars right there on Mayfield Rd.(US 322). You'd be close to Coventry Rd. in Cleveland Hts. which is where a lot of John Carroll students like to kick it. Plus all three of those cities have cheap rent and you'll be in a safe area.

Depends on where he/she plans on living. I think getting a 3BR place in the neighborhood of $750-800 near Coventry might be doable, but finding something like that in South Euclid or Cleveland (University Circle/Shaker Square) is probably more likely.

You're right, most of these places aren't going to be anything special, but everyone deals with crappy housing during college years.
