Frankie Yankovik? Wasn't he the Polka Varieties dude? Wow, does that bring back memories! Grandpa watched it every Sunday.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Higbee's or anything else connected with A Christmas Story! But I guess that's something you think about in the winter...

Is Medic Drugs still in business up there? When I was growing up in Mentor on the Lake, we had either Medic or Mannino's drug stores to choose from.

Default Medic

Nope, as far I know, Medic closed up shop...CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreen's seem to be the drugstores of choice...oh, and can't forget Drug Mart!

Smile Cleveland, you're my home...

I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this forum, but when I came upon this thread I just had to register and post. My parent's dragged me, kicking and screaming, away from the "Holy Land" of the Northcoast when I was the tender age of ten. Thirty years and change and later, despite my SE Michigan address, I remain, in the words of Alex Bevan,a "Skinny Little Boy from Cleveland, Ohio." In those years I've managed to visit "home" freguently, most recently this past weekend. Some of the things that have drawn me back are the memories inspired by:

1. Chipped-Chopped ham from Lawsons
2. Humphreys Popcorn-Balls
3. Manner's Big Boy
4. Record Den @ Newberry's in Mentor
5. Jungle Larry and Safari Jane
6. Hofbrauhaus on E. 55th
7. Beef Corral
8. Mardi Gras in Fairport Harbor
9. Daffy Dan's
10. Joe Tait's "standing 'O' for the guys in gold!!!"
11. The "Great" Geauga County Fair
12. "Fascination" at Geneva-on-the-Lake
13. Latenight dining at Captain Franks on the E. 9th Street Pier
14. The 'original' Cleveland Barons
15. The REAL Dawgpound @ Municipal Stadium
16. Crowds of 5,000 for Tribe games at the above-mentioned location
17. Laughing Sal at Euclid Beach
18. "Stay sick and turn blue"
19. Sportstalk on 3WE with Pete Franklin
20. Fazio's

Ditto on so many that you've all mentioned - Mr. Hero, Kenny King's, York Steakhouse, Captain Penny, Mr. Jingaling, Polka Varieties, Gene Carrol...

God, I love you C-Town!

I loved the Record Den at Newberry's (we as teenagers didn't call it that, however, but I won't type the politically incorrect name that it was known by!!). They used to have the best bootleg collection of Beatles stuff. There was also a pet store in Newberry's where I bought my cockatiel - it's still alive. I also used to work at Fazios. What a blast from the past!!
