Will he have co-workers around his age in the same situation? If so, I would try and find out where they are thinking about living b/c I doubt your son would want to be the only one not living in a certain area.

I think that Cleveland Heights would be a good choice. Coventry and Cedar-Fairmont are perfectly safe, most of the residents are in their 20's and are students/young professionals from a middle to upper class background. I don't think your son would have a problem finding a 7-month rental either (as long as his stay will end between May and August). There are a lot of students renters in both places so a lot of the apartment turnover takes place at either the beginning or end of the school year.

Of the two, I would recommend Coventry over Cedar-Fairmont because it has more of a neighborhood feel, better restaurants/bars, more of a night life and a larger selection of rental units (I have lived on Coventry for almost three years though so I am a bit biased)

Lakewood is a popular rental area with a lot of young professionals and less students. The commute wouldn't be too bad distance wise, but I don't think I would want to deal with traffic going through the city.

There are some rentals in Beechwood (The Village and The Hampton's) both places do short term corporate leases, but they will charge you for it! Willoughby would probably be the easiest commute and I know there are a bunch of apartments in the area. However, I don't know how hard it would be to find a 7-month lease or what the typical renter is like there.

how about mayfield heights? lots of apartment complexes, fairly safe (safer than euclid), some bars, lots of restaurants, a pretty quick jaunt to more nightlife in coventry/cleveland heights/downtown, and with great highway access (about 20 minutes to euclid?)

beachwood has a lot of restaurants/shopping, but the apartments there are pretty expensive as is the shopping/bars/restaurants. still it's pretty safe.
